When we think about what element in life compliments the essence of both mushrooms and plant medicine as a whole, the word “artistry” or “creativity” comes to mind instantaneously. From breaking down ego barriers to enhancing awareness to life’s most sacred details, the creativity-enhancing aspects of psilocybin plays a major role in the mushroom space, a connection that has prompted us to bring our newest collaboration to life.
As both a tattoo artist and photographer, Jess Nardo expresses herself through art forms that inspire us all. Her ability to capture beauty, emotion, and meaning through organic lines and stirring portraits effortlessly evokes the same feelings so many experience through both plant medicine and nature as a whole: grounding, curiosity, awe, and connection.
She’s also experienced firsthand how microdosing can unlock new perspectives and enhance creativity, making this collaboration feel even more connective. In honour of that creative synergy, Jess has reimagined our classic Bliss Bites packaging into an artful piece infused with intention and meaning.
Here’s an inside look at our conversation with the incredible Jess Nardo.
So Jess, what role does nature and everyday life play in your creative process?
“Nature really IS the basis of my creative process, inspiring both my art & my everyday life. Whether it’s the sky, water, the way wind moves the leaves, the simple sight or song of a bird, it all keeps me very grounded. I focus on tattooing plants, animals, & insects.. with the twist of my abstract lifework, heavily inspired by the way water moves, woodgrain, & sound waves because I see them all as reminders of life & our connectedness. That is the biggest inspiration for me.”
How have tattooing and photography influenced your style of self-expression?
“Tattooing & photography are just two of many ways that I get to express myself and the way I see beauty in everyday life. They allow me to speak without words, & capture what inspires me while also allowing it to resonate with so many other people. Being trusted to create permanent artwork for people who are attracted to & connect with the same vision.. is really the biggest blessing. It’s all part of my creative ‘voice’… from what I wear to the art I share.”
There’s a lot of discourse in our community surrounding psilocybin’s ability to spark creativity and inspiration. Have you ever experienced this?
“Yesss.. I have definitely experienced how psilocybin, especially when I microdose consistently, can spark my creativity & inspiration in ways that feel fresh & unexpected. It helps me see projects from new perspectives… ultimately making my work more well-rounded & thoughtful. I really feel like it’s enhanced my creative process.”
Your work is known for its striking intricacy and detail. Did developing your own unique style come naturally, or did it evolve over time?
“Developing my style definitely came naturally.. but it was really through my clients trusting me to freehand details & explore what felt right to me. They often don’t see the final concept until it’s permanently on them, & that trust really allows my work to evolve. I love that it’s always changing.. the same way that no 2 leaves or plants are the same.”
What’s the story or inspiration behind the art you created for this collaboration?
“For this collaboration, I decided to play with the imagery of a cacao plant because of my connection to cacao & the beautiful experiences I’ve had with it. It’s honestly one of the main reasons I was really drawn to this specific product. I really value natural & clean ingredients. I wanted to highlight the organic flow of nature & where the ingredient actually comes from to show the purity of this product & its roots in the earth.”
How do you hope collaborations like this one inspire people to think differently about art and everyday objects?
“I hope collaborations like this inspire people to see the beauty in even the most simple things… Art is absolutely everywhere you look. I think its exciting that by blending my creative expression with a product I genuinely love, it might inspire others to look at everyday things differently.. to see the beauty, care, & true passion behind them.”
Is there anything you’d say to others who feel stuck or lost in their creative journey?
“Id say to anyone feeling stuck; it’s really all part of the ebb & flow. You’ll have moments of feeling stagnant.. but really you can just take it as a time of introspection before inspiration returns. Trust that it ALWAYS shifts… creativity always finds you again when you least expect it. For me, re-connecting to nature is always the best way to reignite it. Just be kind to yourself no matter which way the scale is leaning.”
